Seagull Control in London
Once considered a coast dwelling bird, seagulls (Herring Gulls), are becoming more of a problem in urban areas and town centres.
It is now common for them to nest on both domestic and commercial buildings.
If you find that your property has been invaded by gulls call our expert pest bird control company to get rid of the problem.
We have a number of deterrents that are robust as these birds can be very destructive.
We install stainless steel spikes, chimney cages, daddi long legs, bird control netting. Our bird control company also has other options which can be installed once we know the extent of the problem.
Associated diseases
Histoplasmosis: is an infection caused by breathing in spores of a fungus often found in bird droppings. The infection is most commonly spread when these spores are inhaled after taking to the air.
Escherichia coli (E. Coli): mainly spread by seagulls, it can lead to illnesses such as gastro-enteritis and septicaemia.
Seagull droppings, like pigeon waste, have also been known to contaminate food and water sources.
Besides direct contamination, airborne spores from drying faeces can enter air ducts and vents which can easily be transferred around buildings.
Gulls - The destructive bird
Our feathered friends conjure up images of a day out at the seaside. However, the urban dwelling gull in London can present a different picture.
Gulls can be very destructive pecking at pipe lagging and roofing material.
We have seen first hand the damage they can cause to asphalt roofing!
Blocked gulleys are common due to the size of the nesting which almost acts as a damn. This can lead to internal water damage.
Nesting material can also block flues and vents.
How to get rid of seagulls near me
Seagulls have a lifespan in excess of 20 years. They are a very territorial bird and will return to the same nesting spot each year to raise their young.
As a pest bird control company we have been dealing with gulls for many years.
We only install robust deterrents designed to keep seagulls of your property.
Chimney Cages
A favourite location for nesting gulls is in between chimney pots. Gulls are very selective about which pots to nest in between. Close by will need to be a flat surface or secure area for the fledglings to ‘grow their wings’
Depending on the type of chimney and other variants, a chimney cage/guard may be the best solution to prevent birds from nesting.
Our seagull cages are handmade on site and will last for many years.
Seagull Spikes
Depending on the behaviour of the gulls we can install seagull spikes for domestic and commercial properties in London.
Made from stainless steel with 8 inch rods and a tough polycarbonate base. Spikes can be either screwed into place or secured with an industry mastic.
Spikes can be installed along roof ledges, ridges and behind chimneys – a favourite location for nesting gulls.
Daddi Long Legs™
Daddi Long Legs™ is an innovative bird deterrent. Mainly used in the marine environment, but due to various types of fixings they can be installed on many flat surfaces.
Made from corrosion resistant steel rods, the spider type arms spin on a tough plastic central hub. Available in 1.25 m and 2.5 m diameters.
The movement deters pest birds from landing on large open spaces whilst making it easy for access where maintenance or inspections of roof plant are required.
Seagull Netting
Seagull netting is a cost-effective method of seagull control.
Made from tough high density polyethylene with a breaking strain of 20kg.
It is both rot and UV resistant.
Designed to cover larger areas to include flat roofs and building fascias.
We can also build, and install, bespoke systems to cover roof plant/machinery.
